Important Intersection Ahead warns of a major crossing — often a busy highway junction — where you should expect signals, heavy cross-traffic, or turning vehicles.
Warning signs alert you to hazards or changing conditions ahead.
Slow down, cover the brake, and read the intersection early: signal heads, stopped queues, and turning traffic. Rural highway junctions like these host many of Alberta's worst collisions.
Warning signs are usually yellow diamonds with black symbols. In construction or maintenance zones they are orange instead of yellow.
Advance intersection warnings exist mainly for high-speed rural roads — the tested response is reducing speed and preparing to yield or stop before you can even see the conflict.
