Service Road — Local Traffic Only restricts this frontage road to vehicles accessing the homes and businesses along it, keeping through-traffic on the main highway.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
Use the service road only if your destination is on it. Through-drivers should stay on the highway; cutting down a service road to bypass congestion is what the sign prohibits.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
"Local traffic" means traffic with a destination on that road — the test may probe whether using it as a shortcut is permitted (it isn't).
Road signs are one of the five areas the 30-question Alberta Class 7 knowledge test covers, and the largest block in our mock exam at 8 questions. Signs alone won't carry you to a pass, so practise every Class 7 test topic free and come back to whichever signs you keep getting wrong.
