Do Not Enter (a white horizontal bar in a red circle) marks the exit end of a one-way road or ramp. Traffic on the other side is coming toward you; entry from this end is prohibited.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
Never drive past this sign. If you meant to take the road, find its entrance end — this is commonly posted at freeway off-ramps to stop drivers entering against traffic.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
Pairs with Wrong Way: Do Not Enter warns you before the mistake, Wrong Way confirms you've made it. Know both, and know they protect one-way flow.
