Left Turn Only means traffic in this lane must turn left at the intersection — you cannot go straight through or turn right from here.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
If you're in this lane, commit to the left turn. If you don't want to turn, signal and change lanes well before the intersection — lane changes inside the intersection are illegal.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
Lane-control arrows bind the lane, not the road: the test shows a multi-lane diagram and asks what each lane may do. White arrows on a black background are mandatory movements.
