School Ahead warns that you're approaching a school area — expect the school zone itself (with its 30 km/h limit during school days) and children near the road.
Warning signs alert you to hazards or changing conditions ahead.
Slow down, scan sidewalks and parked cars for children, and be ready for the school zone speed limit. Children can enter the road suddenly and don't judge vehicle speed well.
Warning signs are usually yellow diamonds with black symbols. In construction or maintenance zones they are orange instead of yellow.
Alberta school zones are typically 30 km/h during posted times on school days — and the exam contrasts them with playground zones, which apply every day during the hours posted on the sign (Edmonton and Calgary: 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., year-round).
