Regulatory sign

What does the Wrong Way sign mean?

"Wrong Way" tells you that you are travelling against the flow of traffic — you have entered a one-way road, ramp, or divided highway in the wrong direction.

Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.

What to do at this sign

Do not continue. Pull over immediately, and when it is safe, turn around or back out the way you came. At night, headlights coming toward you on "your" side of the road are the same warning.

How to recognize this sign

Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.

How the Class 7 test asks about this sign

Wrong Way is the stronger companion to Do Not Enter: if you see it, you've already made the error and must stop — the test asks what to do, and the answer is stop and turn around safely, not carry on to the next exit.

How much is this sign worth on the test?

Road signs are one of the five areas the 30-question Alberta Class 7 knowledge test covers, and the largest block in our mock exam at 8 questions. Recognising a sign on a page is easier than recognising it in a question. Drill Class 7 practice questions with answers until the right response is instant.
