The no-U-turn sign shows a U-shaped arrow crossed out in a red circle. Reversing your direction at this location is prohibited — typically because oncoming traffic can't see you in time.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
Carry on and change direction somewhere legal: go around the block or use a further intersection where U-turns aren't prohibited and you have clear sightlines.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
Remember that even where no sign prohibits it, a U-turn is only legal when it can be made safely and isn't otherwise banned (e.g., on a curve or near a hill crest where you can't be seen).
