This sign reminds you that seat belt use is required by law in Alberta — for the driver and every passenger, in every seating position with a belt.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
Buckle up before moving and make sure every passenger does too. The driver is responsible (and ticketed) for any passenger under 16 who isn't properly secured.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
Exam angles: the driver is liable for unbelted passengers under 16, and belt use applies per person, per seat — no sharing and no belts behind the back.
