Posted on the rear of school buses: when the bus's red lights flash, you must not pass. On an undivided road this applies to traffic in both directions.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
Stop at least 20 metres from a school bus with flashing red lights, whether you're behind it or meeting it head-on, and stay stopped until the lights stop flashing. On a divided highway, only traffic travelling the same direction as the bus must stop.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
One of the most-tested rules on the Class 7 exam: both directions stop on undivided roads; the divided-highway exception (oncoming traffic exempt) is the detail that separates right from wrong answers.
