Pedestrians Prohibited means people on foot may not use this roadway — typically posted at freeway on-ramps and other high-speed roads where walking is deadly.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
As a driver, this is a road where you should not expect (or stop for hitchhikers or) pedestrians. If your vehicle breaks down here, stay with it and use hazard lights rather than walking the roadway.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
Freeways are the classic setting: pedestrians, cyclists, and slow-moving vehicles are all barred from them, and the exam asks which road users a freeway excludes.
