This sign instructs pedestrians how to use a marked crosswalk — typically to point or extend an arm to show drivers they intend to cross before stepping out.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
As a driver, treat it as a signed crosswalk: watch for pedestrians pointing or waiting at the curb and yield to them. As a pedestrian, make eye contact and signal before crossing; never assume a driver has seen you.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
Know both sides of the interaction: pedestrians should point to signal intent, and drivers must yield to a pedestrian who does. The test can ask it from either perspective.
