The Hardest Alberta Class 7 Questions — and How to Get Them Right

A few topics trip up most Class 7 learners. Get these right and you remove the easiest ways to lose marks on test day.
1. A solid yellow light means stop — if you can
A steady amber light is not a signal to speed up. It means the light is about to turn red: stop before the line if you can do so safely, and only continue if you're too close to stop.
2. Right-of-way at a four-way stop
The first vehicle to come to a complete stop goes first. If two arrive at the same time, the driver on the right has the right-of-way.
3. Turning left across oncoming traffic
When you turn left, you yield to oncoming traffic going straight or turning right. Wait for a safe gap — never assume they'll stop for you.
4. Stopping for a school bus
On an undivided road, traffic in BOTH directions must stop for a school bus with flashing red lights, and stay stopped until the lights stop flashing.
5. The GDL demerit limit is lower
Class 7 learners are suspended at just 8 demerit points in two years — not 15 like fully licensed drivers. New drivers also have a zero blood-alcohol limit.
The fastest way to lock these in is repetition. Take a few free practice tests, let the weak-area tracker find your gaps, and drill them until they're automatic.
