Cattle Crossing warns that livestock cross the road here — either free-range grazing or a farm crossing where herds are moved between pastures.
Warning signs alert you to hazards or changing conditions ahead.
Slow down and be prepared to stop and wait for animals to clear the road; never honk your way through a herd. In range country, cattle on the road can appear over any rise.
Warning signs are usually yellow diamonds with black symbols. In construction or maintenance zones they are orange instead of yellow.
Treat livestock like any road hazard: reduce speed, stop if needed, and pass slowly and widely only when safe — the exam rewards patience over assertiveness.
