The checkerboard marks the end of the road — a dead end straight ahead. The road does not continue past the barrier; traffic must turn left or right.
Warning signs alert you to hazards or changing conditions ahead.
Slow down well in advance and prepare to turn in the direction the intersection allows. At night, treat the checkerboard as a hard wall — many serious rural collisions are drivers running a T-intersection.
Warning signs are usually yellow diamonds with black symbols. In construction or maintenance zones they are orange instead of yellow.
Know your checkerboards: this one faces you at a T-intersection meaning "no road ahead." It's one of the signs learners most often misidentify on the exam.
