The one-way sign's arrow shows the only direction traffic may travel on this street — here, to the left. Entering or turning against the arrow puts you head-on into traffic.
Regulatory signs control how you may use the road — they must be obeyed.
Turn only in the direction of the arrow. When turning onto a one-way street, finish your turn in the nearest available lane travelling that direction.
Regulatory signs are usually white rectangles or squares with black or red markings. A few have special shapes: a red octagon means Stop and a red-and-white downward triangle means Yield. A red circle with a slash means something is prohibited.
Left turns from a two-way street onto a one-way street are a favourite exam setup: you turn into the leftmost lane of the one-way, not the right lane.
